Sometimes beekeeping takes us well beyond the apiary.
As the wife of Master Beekeeper Nathaniel Lovell, I sometimes get called on as the less-qualified assistant. This time, the job was removing a colony of bees from someone’s home.
This wasn’t a matter of simply collecting a swarm. The bees had established their home inside the structure, which meant carefully opening the wall and removing the colony piece by piece.
The aim was to remove the bees safely, save as much of their comb as possible and give the colony a new home where they could continue to thrive.
Watch the rescue mission and check out the size of that honeycomb!
